People Give to People!

In the distant past as Chief Executive setting up Barretstown I had the honour and privilege to work with an American Icon and arguably one of the worlds most loved and respected actors Paul Newman. It was not, however, Mr. Newman's acting ability that pervades my memory but his quite demeanor, understated elegance and his most simple mantra, "people give to people". He believed there was no unworthy cause, what defined their success or demise depended greatly on the people that ran the organisations, their ethos and fundamentally their wish "to serve" their community. The success of his Newman's Own product range will testify to the love people had for him and their wish to give "to him".

Ireland as a nation has an exceptional reputation for giving and Dunlavin as a microcosm of the Island is no different. Within our community the spirit of a strong social consciousness prevails and this is exemplified by the number of people and groups that have for may years being giving generously of their time and resource to help their neighbours. 

The list with these pages in no way captures all the good deeds that occur each day within our community but perhaps it will help to at least in some small way help to raise awareness, recognise and thank all those who tirelessly and in many cases unnoticed give generously of themselves.
